SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITIES AT THE KEMSUAs many other institutions of higher education in the country the Kemerovo State University makes its contribution in development of science. The achieved results confirm the high scientific and creative potential of the University. The gross volume of the executed scientific research and scientific services rendered to external customers is approximately three times the corresponding volume of an average young institution of higher education of the country. Unique kinds of products are developed and are at different stages of experimental industrial realization. International exhibitions and competitions have rewarded: ultradispersive metals and diamonds, new photomaterials, new polymeric biologically compatible materials of the medical purpose, highly effective biotechnologies. The Kemerovo State University is perhaps the only institution of higher education in Kuzbass having kept its research officers on the staff, at present their number is about 70. The Post-Graduate Courses were opened in 1962, and the Doctoral Courses - in 1992. Studies at the Post-Graduate Courses are provided on 35 specialities, at the Doctoral Courses - on 7. Dissertation works are being prepared by 35 Doctoral students and over 500 post-graduates under the scientific leadership of 145 Professors and Senior Lecturers. About 600 members of the teaching staff and the education support personnel take direct part in scientific research. In all, over 1000 KemSU workers are occupied with scientific research. Main activities of the University scientists are bound up with development of more than ten scientific trends. Yearly almost 1500 works are published on results of the scientific activities, including 600-700 articles in the federal press. Scientific schools leaded by Correspondence Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Zakharov Y. A. (Chemistry of Solids), Academician of the Academy of Natural Sciences of the Russian Federation Martynov A. I. (History of Steppe Eurasia), Professor Kazin E. M. (Human Ecology) are well-known. Yearly the KemSU workers defend no less than 5 Doctor's and over 30 Candidate's theses. Yearly the University holds no less than 5 All-Russian and International scientific conferences. The KemSU scientists' works are supported by the leading Russian and foreign scientific foundations: the Russian Foundation for the Humanities, the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, the Soros Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the Fulbright Foundation. In the frames of different projects the University works on the programs of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the National Training Foundation, the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), the EEC (TACIS-TEMPUS), the International Science and Technology Center. In September 2007 the Center of Chinese Study was founded at the KemSU. The high level of scientific research carried out at the KemSU was recognized by rewarding the composite authors of works on youth self-determination in conditions of continuous education and developments in the field Information Technologies with two RF Government Prizes in Education (1999 ã.). For high quality of its production and rendered services, creativity and dynamism of development, in 2002 the University was awarded with the Gold Medal of the International Association of Encouragement for Industry (founded in 1801 by Napoleon Bonaparte in Paris). In 2004 the KemSU was awarded with the Diploma of the Gold Medal Winner "European Quality" in the nomination "100 Best Universities". |
