The Faculty is located on the 3rd floor of Buiding 2.
The Dean's Office is in Room 413.

The Faculty provides training on two specialities:

  • 020700 "History";
  • 350200 "International Relations".

For the last years the budget enrollment of historian students for full-time education has been increased from one to four groups, and the enrollment for correspondence education has been decreased from three groups to one. At present the student contingent of full-time historians is 545 persons, of correspondence historians - 180 persons.

In 1999 the Historical Faculty was renamed into the Faculty of History and International Relations (FI&IR) because of transition to two-profile training after opening of the new speciality "International Relations" with the budget enrollment to the Department of International Relations (DIR) - 20 persons. In 2002 160 students studied at the DIR.

Historian students are specialized on the following trends:

  • Archaeology;
  • History of Middle Ages;
  • New and Modern History of Foreign Countries;
  • Native History;
  • Modern Native History;
  • History of World Culture.

The advantages of education at the Faculty:

  • two-profile training;
  • high qualification of professors and lecturers;
  • prospects of employment due to the need in specialists of the Faculty profile;
  • traditions of students' self-government and self-realization in the process of studies;
  • international relations of the Faculty, students' probation abroad;
  • broad expeditionary activities (including the CIS).

Main trends of scientific activities at the Faculty:

  • Archaeology of steppe Eurasia and ethnography of South Siberia;
  • History of formation of the social, economic and national structure in the South of West Siberia;
  • Modern social demographic problems of Kuzbass;
  • History of the coal industry in Kuzbass;
  • Punitive policy in the Siberian region (XX century);
  • History and historiography of German fascism;
  • History and historiography of international relations and the foreign policy of Russia.

Several educational and scientific departments and organizations function on the basis of the Faculty and in tight connection with fulfilment of its main tasks:

  • Museum of Archaeology, Ethnography and Ecology of South Siberia (Director of the Museum - Belousova N. A.);
  • Kuzbass Laboratory of Archaeology and Ethnography at the SB RAS - KemSU (Head of the Laboratory - Professor Bobrov V. V.);
  • Laboratory of Databases in Archaeology (Head of the Laboratory - Professor Sher Y. A.);
  • Laboratory of Metallography in Archaeology (Head of the Laboratory - Professor Zinyakov N. M.);
  • Laboratory of Ethnosocial Monitoring (Head of the Laboratory - Professor Sadovoy A. N.);
  • Siberian Association of Prehistoric Art Researchers (SAPAR) (President of the Association - Professor Sher Y. A.);
  • West Siberian Center of Germanic Research (Chairman - Professor Galaktionov Y. V.).

For the last 50 years the Faculty has trained over 5000 graduates with the qualification "Historian. Teacher". Their knowledge and skills are realized in their jobs of school teachers and university lecturers; scientific workers of archives, museums, workers of law-enforcement bodies.

The Department of International Relations will graduate the first group of students with the qualification "Specialist in the Field of International Relations", speaking two foreign languages, trained on History, Economics, Culture and Law, in 2004. They could probably be placed in jobs of experts-consultants, consultants in international affairs at state and non-state organizations, enterprizes, institutions and firms functioning in the sphere of international cooperation.

For the future the Faculty is planning:

  • to keep on widening inter-disciplinary and international cooperation;
  • to provide extensive introduction of new information technologies into the scientific educational process in order to raise the quality of training specialists;
  • to open new specialities: "Region Study", "Advertising", "Public Relations".
