The main purpose of the Faculty is training highly qualified specialists of the economic profile for the region and the country as a whole who will be able to take and realize thoroughly grounded economic, finance and administrative decisions on all directions of activities of enterprises (firms, organizations) functioning in the real and budget spheres of the economy in the complicated social and economic conditions of formation of the market economy. For that the Faculty trains specialists on four specialities, viz.: 06.04. - "Finance and Credit", 06.08. - "Economy and Management at the Enterprise", 06.11. - "Management of the Organization", 06.15. - "Marketing".

On the speciality "Finance and Credit" graduates are given the qualification "Economist". The sphere of professional activities of the specialists is taking decisions on the matters bound up with:

• formation and realization of budgets of different levels;
• the mechanism of control over the state debt;
• non-budget funds functioning;
• the order of planning, stock-taking, book-keeping and analysis at enterprises, organizations, institutions;
• peculiarities of organizing finance of enterprises, organizations, institutions functioning on the commercial basis;
• banking and insurance.

The objects of professional activities of economists are institutions of the finance-credit system including the external economic sphere, economic services of enterprises and organizations with all forms of property, state bodies of the federal and municipal levels, enterprises, organizations and institutions functioning on the commercial basis.

On the speciality "Economy and Management at the Enterprise" graduates are given the qualification "Economist-manager". The specialists' activities are directed to providing functioning of enterprises of all organizational and legal forms with a view of rational managing the economy, production and social development with due regard for the branch specificity of the machinery, technology, organization of production, effective nature exploitation.

The objects of professional activities of economists-managers are enterprises and their structural subdivisions, commercial organizations of different organizational and legal forms (state and municipal unitary enterprises, productive co-operatives, economic associations and societies), non-commercial organizations and associations requiring professional knowledge of the branch economy and economy of the enterprise.

On the speciality "Management" graduates are given the qualification "Manager". The sphere of managers' professional activities includes providing rational managing economic processes, organizing systems of management, developing management in accordance with the tendencies of the social and economic development. The managers' professional activities are applied to the sphere of management and business at different organizational subdivisions of state enterprises, joint stocks and private firms. They also concern scientific productive associations, scientific, design and project organizations, bodies of state administering with a view of rational administering over the economy, production and social infrastructure. Training on this speciality is only on the system of second higher education.

On the speciality "Marketing" graduates are given the qualification "Marketologist". The sphere of specialists-marketologists' professional activities includes providing functioning of enterprises of all organizational and legal forms in the rapidly changing conditions of the external environment with a view of the maximum possible meeting consumers' needs and profit. The marketologists' professional activities are applied to the sphere of management and business at enterprises and their structural subdivisions of different organizational and legal forms. Besides, they concern commercial organizations, bodies of state and municipal administering. The specialization "International Marketing" is opened in the framework of the speciality "Marketing".

In 1998 the Faculty take part in the competitive selection among Russian educational institutions for realisation of the State Plan of training managers on the President's Programe. Having passed two rounds of the competitive selection the Faculty was qualified to training such specialists and has already graduated the specialists with diplomas of professional training in the sphere of financial management and marketing three times (the total number is over 110 persons).

The priority directions of the scientific research work at the Faculty are the matters bound up with problems of forming market relations as a whole in the region and their separate aspects, in particular: the labour market, social problems, problems of social protection and the quality of the population's life, study of the public opinion, problems of regional marketing, problems of the structural reorganization of the economy of the region, problems of the competition and antimonopoly policy, etc. The Faculty pays special attention to participation in the inter-regional program of scientific research "Altai - Kuzbass" as well as in the Federal program "Universities of Russia".

There are post-graduate courses at the Faculty on the scientific specialitites: 08.00.01 - "Economic Theory" and 08.00.05 - "National Economy and Management". On the same specialties the Kemerovo State University opened the Regional Council on Theses Defence for the scientific degrees of Doctor and Candidate of Economics on the base of the Faculty.

The Faculty trains specialists also for foreign countries. Thus, according to the contract with the Lhyaonin University (the People's Republic of China) in 1998 11 Chinese citizens were trained as Bachelors of Economics, two of them now study at the full-time post-graduate courses at the Faculty. At present 2 students from the People's Republic of China and 3 - from Mongolia study at the Faculty on the program of specialists.

The nearest plans of the Faculty include opening Doctor's and Master's courses. The proper documentation is already prepared. Besides, it is planned to expand the available specialities with opening the specializations: "Administering over the Personnel", "Economy and Management of Nature Preservation" and a number of others.
