THE KEMSU TODAYThe Kemerovo State University (KemSU) was founded in 1974. At present it is a leading institution of higher education in Kuzbass and one of the largest institutions in Siberia. It is dynamically developing, having a distributed network of branches, providing training specialists and carrying out scientific research in a wide range of lines. Today the KemSU structure includes 5 branches in Anzhero-Sudzhensk, Belovo, Novokuznetsk, Prokopievsk, Yurga. The KemSU and its branches include 20 faculties. Training specialists is provided at 70 chairs of the head University and 35 chairs at the branches on 53 lines and specialities. Over 22 000 students of the full-time, evening, correspondence and distant forms of education study at the University. Besides, there are the Faculty of Pre-University Training (3 500 students) and 4 Faculties of the Interbranch Regional Center of Qualification Level Raising and Retraining Specialists. The structure forming kernel of the KemSU scientific collective consists of highly qualified specialists - 58 Academicians and Corresponding Members of the Russian Academy of Sciences and other academies; over 100 Doctors of Science and Professors. The scientific technical potential of Candidates of Science, Senior Lecturers is over 400 persons. 22 workers are conferred with the rank of Honoured Worker. The head University includes 12 faculties training highly qualified specialists for educational systems of all levels, law machinery and justice, bank structures and leading branches of the economy. The Kemerovo State University carries out fundamental and applied research in different fields of science, industry, national economy and higher school. Works of the KemSU scientific collectives won two Prizes of the RF Government in the field of education. In 2004 the University was awarded with the Laureate Diploma of the Gold Medal competition "European Quality" in the category "100 Best Universities". On results of their scientific research the University scientists yearly publish about 4 000 scientific works (articles and paper abstracts) and about 250 books: monographs, scientific collections, manuals and tutorials. The KemSU and its branches yearly holds about 20-25 scientific conferences, no less than 10 of them are of the All-Russia and International levels. The University effectively cooperates with foreign institutes of the USA, Germany, Belgium, France, China, Mongolia, etc. Yearly over 20 students and 50 workers of the University study abroad on different kinds of probation. The University successfully realizes the Program of foundation of joint educational institutions. Thus, in September of 2007 the Center of Learning Chinese was opened at the KemSU. It is the only center of the kind in the region. The KemSU provides a wide range of educational services on the basis of the Interbranch Regional Center of Qualification Level Raising (IRCQLR): advanced training educational specialists, psychologists, workers of the social sphere of the Region, etc. For already several years the Presidential Program of training managers for organizations of the national economy of the Russian Federation has been realizing on the basis of the IRCQLR. Besides, in April of 2008 the Regional Center of Educational Institution Security (RCEIS), functioning in accordance with the Order of the RF Federal Agency of Education and Science, was opened on the basis of the IRCQLR. It is the only in West Siberia educational center, having all rights and credentials to provide educational activities in the line "Complex Security of an Educational Institution". The University has developed and practically realized the system of continuous education. The Regional University Complex of Continuous Education of the KemSU is formed containing the central University and a distributed network of branches located in Kuzbass cities each of which is a kernel of centers of continuous education connected with the common regional network, including lyceums and gymnasias, schools and institutions of post-university and additional education. The University Complex is connected with a high-speed computer network, built on the basis of the Center of New Information Technologies. |
